Description
LR-Cal CPB5000-HP description
Proven primary standard
Deadweight tester are the most accurate devices available on the market for the calibration of electronic or mechanical pressure measuring instruments. The direct measurement of the pressure (p = F/A), as well as the use of high quality materials allow a very small measurement uncertainty in combination with an excellent long-term stability of 5 years (recommendation according to the German Calibration Service (DAkkS). Pressure balances / piston manometers have been used for years in factory and calibration laboratories of industry, national institutes and research institutes.
Autarkic operation
Due to the integrated pressure generation (for measuring ranges up to 10 bar) as well as the purely mechanical measuring principle, the LR-Cal CPB5000-HP pressure balance is also ideally suited for on-site use, maintenance and service.
Basic principle
Pressure is defined as the quotient of force and area. Accordingly, the heart of the LR-Cal CPB5000-HP pressure balance (deadweight tester) is a very precisely manufactured piston/cylinder system that is loaded with mass supports to generate the individual test points.
The mass support is proportional to the target pressure and is achieved by optimally graduated disc weights. These disc weights are manufactured as standard to the standard acceleration of gravity of 9.80665 m/s², but can also be optionally adapted to their specific location of use and also DAkkS-calibrated.
Simple mode of operation
The pressure is adjusted via an integrated pump. For fine adjustment, a very precisely adjustable spindle pump with an internally running precision spindle is installed. As soon as the measuring system is then in the hovering state, there is a balance of forces between the pressure and the mass supports. Due to the excellent workmanship of the system, this pressure remains stable for several minutes, so that the pressure values for comparative measurement can be read off without any problems, or even longer adjustment work can be carried out on the test specimen.
Stable instrument design
With the maximum pressure model, calibrations up to a maximum pressure of 5,000 bar are possible.
It is built in a stable basement and offers exceptional ease of operation. With the integrated pre-pressure pump and 250 ml tank, even large test volumes can be easily filled and pre-compressed.
The two test ports are equipped with knurled nuts and interchangeable thread adapters with sealing cones. The following thread adapters with external threads are included in the scope of delivery:
- M16 x 1.5 with sealing cone
- M20 x 1.5 with sealing cone
- 9/16-18 UNF with sealing cone
Special features:
- Total measurement uncertainty up to ±0.02% of measured value
- With traceable factory calibration certificate as standard (option: DAkkS calibration certificate)
- Very high long-term stability, recommended recalibration only every 5 years
- Mass disks made of stainless steel, adaptation to local gravitational acceleration of the place of use possible without extra charge
- Compact dimensions
Applications:
- Primary standard for the measurand pressure, up to max. 5,000 bar (70,000 psi), hydraulic
- Reference instrument for factory and calibration laboratories for testing, adjusting and calibrating pressure measuring instruments of all types
- Self-sufficient complete system, also suitable for on-site use.
Piston cylinder system + mass set
LR-Cal CPB5000-HP piston cylinder system
The piston-cylinder system is screwed into the receptacle in the basement and has special ball bearings that ensure the excellent running characteristics with a high free rotation time and low sink rates and a very high long-term stability, even at high pressures and forces. The recommended recalibration cycle is therefore 5 years.
The materials of the piston and cylinder have very low coefficients of pressure and temperature expansion, which results in very good linearity of the effective piston cross-sectional area and high accuracy.
LR-Cal CPB5000-HP mass set
The standard set of measures (scope depending on the measuring range) is supplied in one to three storage cases. This contains measuring pieces made of non-magnetic stainless steel, which are optimally matched to daily use. For finer graduations or for a higher resolution, the use of a set of fine incremental weight set class M1 or F1 from the accessories is recommended.
If you do not use the instrument under reference conditions (ambient temperature 20°C, air pressure 1,013 mbar, relative humidity 40%), appropriate correction calculations must be applied.
The pulley weights are manufactured as standard to the standard acceleration of gravity of 9.80665 m/s², but can also be adapted to your local gravity (for model LR-Cal CPB5000-HP at no extra charge).
The mass tables (list of number and weight of the pulley weights included in the mass sets can be found in the data sheet, see DOWNLOADs.

1) Theoretical starting value; corresponds to the pressure value generated by the piston (by its own weight). To optimise the operating characteristics, more weights should be loaded.
2) The smallest pressure change value that can be achieved based on the standard weight set. To reduce this, a set of trim-masses is available (see accessories).
3) The accuracy from 10% of the measuring range is based on the measured value. In the lower range, a fixed error based on 10% of the range applies.
4) Measurement uncertainty assuming reference conditions (ambient temperature 20°C, air pressure 1,013 mbar, relative humidity 40%). Corrections must be made if required.
